Introduction

Hello! My name is JT and I am the sole developer and Founder of heyEvie. I thought I'd write blogs as I go; frankly, it helps me focus more on the craft itself, rather having mental real estate taken up by performance metrics and the business side, which I have less passion for.
What is heyEvie
It's my attempt to try and build a realistic 1 on 1 AI-companion that genuinely grows and changes as you talk to it. I am absolutely fascinated by concepts like Westworld, the TV show (well... the first season...) absolutely blew me away and as a concept it genuinely captivated me. I think I was playing Red Dead 2 at a similar time and remember being blown away by its NPC interactions. I remember thinking now imagine this but you could actually communicate, voice to voice, with a world that is fully reactive to you.
Then... take it one step further, and the AIs have relationships with each other, eventually simulating entire towns or ecosystems... fully dynamic.
I imagine this project would blow a hole in the ozone layer based on current technology but as a future state it's a pipe dream to build something akin to this.
As a starting point I am building heyEvie to try and nail one-on-one interactions with AI, make it feel convincing as possible, real over time, unlocking memories like in Westworld so it feels rewarding to progress. Not an instant gratification sex-bot, an actual person with their own evolving personality.
What this leads to
Eventually... I'd love to simulate something akin to Oblivion's Whodunit quest (my favourite quest in gaming).
For those who are unaware; this is a Dark Brotherhood (Elder Scrolls' Assassins) quest in which you are placed inside something like a Big Brother house, and you have to kill all the NPCs in the house. Depending on the order of which you kill the NPCs, the other NPCs' dialogue changes. Eventually, you could convince other NPCs to turn on other NPCs, depending on the things you said to each along the way.
I found this fascinating as a kid. I replayed that quest so many times getting all of the different combinations of dialogue you could get. I thought it was genius.
Now... imagine this quest but with 5 actual AI in there. All of which have evolving personalities but with each other. Then, simulate this environment and ultimately stick a player in the middle. A little dynamic murder mystery where no game is the same.
That's the dream! See how we go
Cheers,
JT
